10 Reasons Why Being Single is Awesome

Hello hopeless romantics out there. Now I know everyone's main goal here is to find "the one", get married & live happily ever after, but let's just pause real quick. I'm one of the biggest advocators for finding your one true love & even I have to admit that being single has it's perks. Who says that finding your prince charming/or damsel in distress can't be a fun journey?! It doesn't have to be filled with sad nights moping about being single, it can be the complete opposite! Here are a list of reasons why you should embrace being single. I'm sure it's the same list you've told yourself over & over again, or the same advice you've given to that friend who can't stop complaining about how no one loves them, but I'm here for those of you who can't take your own advice! I'm here to tell you it's ok to be single & to remind you of those reasons why being single is totally awesome!

1. You'll spend more of your life with someone than without.
What I think a lot of us forget is that even if we don't get married til we're 30 or even 40, we're going to spend more of our lives with our spouse than without. I'm only 22 & already if I added up all the years I've NOT been single it sums up to 7 years. That means I've been single for 15. And if we subtract years that I was even old enough to date, or til I was out of my awkward phase & cute enough for someone to want to date (ages of newborn - 14), that leaves me with 1 year that I've really been single. (If you need to see the math yourself that's 22 -7 -14 = 1) Surprising, I know... Do your own math, you'd be surprised that all those nights you've spent watching chick flicks, shoving your face into a tub of ice cream wasn't really all that long of a time. Time alone tends to drag on & feel like an eternity, but its not! Regardless, even if you've never had a boyfriend and you're around my age, that means you've been single for 22 years ( if you're like me ages 0-14 don't count so that leaves you at 8 years) and probably will only be single for maybe 7-10 more years at most. 27-35 years of being single vs 50, 60, 70 years of marriage if you're lucky. Like I said...you're going to be tied down for forever once you tie the knot! So enjoy this short amount of time that you have to be single, it's NOT going to last long!

2. Time to Find Yourself
Being single means alone time. Time to explore new things and more importantly yourself! Spend those lonely nights making lists of things you want to accomplish, making lists of the kind of person you'd like to become & how you can achieve it, instead of making lists as to why you're the biggest loser on earth for staying in on a Friday night. Trust me, you're not.

3. No Check Ins
There's no need to make that call or text asking if it's ok if you (fill in the blank) or having to explain why you decided to stay out til 3 in the morning or being their personal GPS device leaving the location of every place you go to. You've spent enough years doing that with your parents, enjoy your freedom! Being single means there's never an agenda!

4. Guilt Free
You can hang out with your best guy/girl friend without having to try & hide it from your significant other. Go be the only girl at that Monday night football kickback, or be the guy who crashes girls night out without having to explain to someone later it was no biggie. Go on a lunch date with a close friend from high school without being accused of trying to spark up on old flame!

5. Social Media
Facebook, instagram, twitter, tumblr...they're all fun in games until your bf/gf comes along. Being single means you're free to post what you want, when you want. You can send a tweet without having someone text you asking "why do you have time to tweet but not time to respond to my text"...maybe I just wanted alone time without talking to you for a little! You can post that TBT of you & your old friend without getting the 3rd degree about how they should be the only person you post pictures with. Of course there's 2 sides to every story. If you're not dating anyone, you have more time to stalk potential hotties & less time spent stalking their past and their exes past.  Don't pretend like you don't!

6. Mo' money LESS Problems.
Regardless if you're a girl or guy, being in a relationship means spending money. If you're a guy, that usually means dropping some cash at a nice restaurant or a movie and of course flowers, chocolate & jewelry for holidays & special occasions. But girls spend some money too. If you're like me, then you love showering your significant other with gifts & surprising him with baked good (baking ingredients get costly too!) or showing up with that one thing you overheard him saying he really wanted. When you're single the only person you have to shower gifts on is yourself or no one at all, keeping those wallets full!

7.Careers/Goals/Hobbies
You can give 100% to your hopes & dreams! There's no one to spend time on except yourself, so go after what you want and give it your all. There's never been a better time to focus on your career or chase your dreams of being a rock star than now. There's no one holding you back from spending 15 hours a day in the office or from traveling the world or moving to another state for a great opportunity, so take advantage! Who knows, maybe you'll find just the person you're looking for to share all your accomplishments with on the other side of the map!

8.Stay Fit
We've all been there, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Once you get comfortable in a relationship, so does your body. We spend less time at the gym and more time laying in bed eating food watching netflix. We let go of our bodies because hey, the person I'm with loves me for who I am, even those few extra pounds. Of course not everyone goes through this, couples that work out together stay together..or something like that. But, for the vast majority of us, settling down means settling for our bodies too. If you're a girl, that usually means intaking double the amount of food you used to & eating unhealthy. Guys can eat more than we do without gaining any weight & suddenly we've taken to their diet; eating fast food 5 times a week becomes normal to us. Take advantage of the hot bod you're rocking now. Spend as much time as you want at the gym because lord knows you don't have a hot date tonight. There's a million people to impress & that serves as our motivation to stay as in shape as possible. Plus the gyms a great place to spot potentials.

9.The Playing Field.
Date 2 people at once, or 4, or 5. You have no strings attached. Date as many people as you want, heck, go on 2 dates in one day just because you can. Like I've said before, we don't have a lot of time to stay single, so get out there! There's plenty of fish in the sea & it's time to go fishing, oh and there's not a limit as to how many fish you can catch! The world is your oyster. Juan Pablo gets to date 15 people at once, so can you! Remember, you're an amazing person, don't settle for the first person who glances your way or gives you a compliment just because you've had a bit of a dry spell. Date multiple people & allow yourself to see who you really want to be with. Settling could mean missing out on something great.

10. We're Young!
YOLO! or whatever....We're young, it's our one time pass to make mistakes. When you look back at some of the dumber decisions you've made in life, you can just blame it on the fact that "you were young". So make out with that foreigner you just met at the bar, have a one night stand, let someone buy you a drink & then never talk to them again. Pretend to be someone you're not for a night, act like you and a group of friends are foreigners. You can be whoever you want to be! I'm sure it's not the best advice I've ever given, but what I'm trying to say is just have fun while you can. I'm not saying to go out there & sleep with every person who makes eye contact with you, but simply that it's ok to have that walk of shame in the morning, or get to experience what it's like sneaking out of that persons bed & not get caught before the sun rises. HAVE FUN!

So if you've been down on yourself about being single, or find yourself becoming jealous of all the people you knew from high school suddenly getting married & having kids, remember we're the lucky ones! So what if we don't get married for another couple years, that's more YOU time,  and believe me you'll be begging for that when the time comes! Just remember, there's beauty in being single. Once you stop thinking about how lonely you are, you'll realize that you're actually surrounded by so many great things & people. Allow yourself to be emerged in all things that are awesome about being single. Chances are you'll be having the time of your life, glowing with greatness & that special someone will be attracted to that light!
